Within easy reach of Old Rearsby Farm are a multitude of activities and places of interest. Whether it’s sporting activities, history, fine dining or shopping, you’ll be spoilt for choice during your stay with us. Below is a brief guide to what there is to do in the area.
Midlands Meander
The obvious place to start! The world renowned Midlands Meander offers anything & everything that comes to mind. From arts & crafts to designer décor concepts, pick up a copy of the MM Guide from any midlands tourism office or from any of the MM Members on the route. An easy to read, detailed map featuring all the members and what they have to offer is featured in the guide.
Battlefields Tours
Book a full day or half day trip with accredited culture guide, Ron Gold, to the historical Battlefields sites and let him regale you with tales of the First Boer War, Anglo Boer War or the Voortrekker/Zulu War to name but a few.
Horse Riding
Take a trip up to Drakensberg Excursions in the Kamberg and saddle up for an out ride on a beautiful Appaloosa. They have horses that are trained to take riders of every level of experience, you will be guided along their trails with an experienced guide where you can soak up the magnificent scenery.
Golf
There are 3 golf courses within easy reach of Old Rearsby Farm, these being Mooi River Country Club, Gowrie Golf Estate in Nottingham Road and Boschoek Golf Estate in Balgowan. Booking is advised, golf carts also available on request. If you are new to the sport, a professional golfer is available for tutoring at Gowrie.
Game Drives
Located approx. 20 minutes drive from Old Rearsby Farm is Zulu Waters Private Game Reserve (previously Dalton Private Game Reserve). They offer game drives, horse trails & picnic lunches on requested. Just outside Estcourt you will also find Weenen Game Reserve where day visitors are also welcome for game drives.
Fishing
This is the heart of fishing country! Why not make contact with the WildFly Store in Nottingham Road where you will be advised of the best spots to throw a line. They can also assist you with all the fishing gear you need including the rental of equipment.
Hot Air Balloon Rides
Explore our magnificent landscapes from the air and enjoy a champagne breakfast on landing at your destination. This is a trip of a lifetime and certainly well worth working into your holiday itinerary. Rearsby Farm has become a popular launch site so why not plan a flight into your stay with us. Flights are subject to a minimum number of passengers per flight, please enquire when you book.
Hiking
Hiking trails are aplenty up in the Giant’s Castle Nature Reserve, with breath-taking views, plenty of wildlife and a restaurant to stop in and refuel, this is a great day out. Also nearby is the Kamberg Nature Reserve where you can hike up to the caves to view the bushman rock art and soak up the scenery and local wildlife.
Mountain Biking
Once again you are spoilt for choice with mountain biking trails all around the area. Please visit www.mtbroutes.co.za where you can find the best trails suited to your riding ability.
Canopy Tours
For an unforgettable experience gliding through the tree tops, both within easy reach of Rearsby Farm are Karkloof & Drakensberg Canopy Tours.
Spa Treatments
There are a number of Spa’s in the area offering a full range of services. Booking is essential and some Spa’s will only take bookings from their in-house guests at weekends and busy seasons therefore we advise you research this well in advance. If you require any assistance please let us know and we will do the research on your behalf. A mobile therapist is available to come to Rearsby Farm subject to her availability.
Restaurants
There are a number of restaurants in the area offering anything from simple “pub grub” to fine dining. Please enquire when making your booking with us or alternatively, refer to your Midlands Meander guide or the Midlands Meander website www.midlandsmeander.co.za
